Prefinished & Engineered

Prefinished Flooring

Plenty of hardwood flooring sold today is prefinished. Factory finished with many coats of UV-cured polyurethane or aluminum oxide are applied. These factory finishes are tough and durable. Installing a prefinished floor eliminates the time, the dust and the odors associated with the on-site sanding and finishing of an unfinished product. A prefinished floor can be installed in a day. An unfinished flooring installation may require twice as much time for the same area.

Engineered Flooring

Engineered wood flooring is an  alternative to solid hardwood flooring. Engineered flooring basically is a combination of finish wood and plywood. The finish wood is what you walk on and the plywood is underneath. Plywood distinguishes engineered  flooring from solid hardwood. This feature stands up well to areas with light moisture like basements and bathrooms.

Engineered wood has some installation options. It can be nailed down or thicker kinds can be installed as floating floors which means you can install the floating floor right on top of an level, stable existing floor.

Engineered wood floorings can even actually be sanded but only once or twice.
